In the absence of a fundamental change in natural gas and carbon prices, the gradual, market-driven decline in coal-fired generation is likely to continue. In this report, the authors examine the experiences that Chile and Germany have gathered in coal phase out to distil lessons for policymakers needing to navigate the challenges of exiting coal in their own countries.
