German LNG Terminal GmbH announced that it has received the draft exemption decision from the Bundesnetzagentur.
The draft decision, to be reviewed by the Federal Cartell Office and the European Commission, states that the terminal will be exempted from tariff – and network access regulation on a long term basis and applies to the total annual throughput capacity of 8 bcm of gas.
Meanwhile, Uniper’s project in Wilhelmshaven announced that it is re-evaluating plans after the Expression of Interest procedure concluded last week without sufficient response, “because of market players’ reluctance to make binding bookings for import capacities at the planned terminal in the current circumstances”.
Nevertheless several new options are being considered for using the site as an import port for environmentally friendly gas.
Importing hydrogen directly is cited among the possibilities in the long term.
Will we ever see a LNG terminal in Germany, or will it remain as the only large EU country without it?
