Despite the EU’s ongoing efforts to reduce reliance on Russian gas, Russian LNG continues to be crucial for Europe’s energy needs.
The EU remains a key market for Russian LNG, with 76% of Russian LNG (excluding Sakhalin) delivered to Europe in the first 9 months of 2024, compared to 21% to Asia.
For the whole year 2023, these proportions were 70% to Europe and 24% to Asia.
This data underscores the persistent dependence on Russian LNG in Europe and highlights the geopolitical complexity of the global energy market.
